Whitland Abbey - Open Doors 2022

On the 23rd and 24th of September 2022, the Whitland Abbey – Open Doors 2022 event took place, with a wide range of special attractions to give an idea of what life was like when Whitland Abbey flourished in medieval times.

In 2021 for the first time Whitland Abbey was part of the CADW Open Doors celebration of the heritage of Wales. We will continue this new tradition in 2022.

As with the previous year, there was a specially laid on park and ride service. Walking to the Abbey from Whitland was best done along the medieval route using the Whitland Abbey Byway.

There was much happening over the two days: informal tours, quizzes and children’s activities, demonstrations of archery, scything and medieval armour for example, as well as oversized outdoor games such as Jenga, Connect4 and Noughts and Crosses to keep all ages entertained.  All this plus stalls with medieval related items for visitors to browse and buy.  Light refreshments were available.

Whitland Abbey is a CADW scheduled monument, recognising its importance in the history of Wales.  Thank you for recognising its importance and coming along to celebrate Whitland Abbey with us.
