Open Doors 2022

In 2021 Whitland Abbey took part in the CADW Open Doors celebration of the heritage of Wales for the first time.  A second event was held in 2022 on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th September between 11.00am and 5.00pm. There was a wide range of special attractions to give you an idea of what life was like at Whitland Abbey in medieval times.

WHITLAND ABBEY AND THE CISTERCIAN WORLD

An online talk on Saturday March 27th at 3pm by Professor Janet Burton (Professor of Medieval History at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David).

This talk was hosted by Canolfan Hywel Dda and all proceeds are being used to protect and promote Whitland’s heritage.

Ny Dyly Dim: Women and the law in Medieval Wales

An online talk on Wednesday July 14th at 6pm by Dr. Sara Elin Roberts, Visiting Lecturer in history at the University of Chester.

Whitland Abbey is on the Abbey Byway public footpath that links it with the town of Whitland. There are many other public footpaths in the area, including the historic Landsker Borderlands trail, there is something for you whether you just wish a little gentle outdoors stroll to enjoy the stunning contryside, or want a longer more challenging walk. Canolfan Hywel Dda

Canolfan Hywel Dda is a heritage centre focussed on raising awareness of King Hywel Dda and his Laws and their importance to medieval society. Explore Churches Wales

This project aims to attract UK and international visitors to experience the wonderful sacred heritage of Wales, particularly those along and close to The Wales Way. They enable visitors to book travel to Welsh churches, chapels and cathedrals and then explore their wider natural, built and community heritage.
